Ask him or his parents if you know them. If he is faking his ancestry, he will get "bachi" or bad karma. He knows better than use ethnicity to his advantage. Tell him this. "what will your parents and grandparents say to your lies?" That'll get him good..... family pride and respect is important. So is not shaming his family.
