Why would anyone try to contact a UFO, if the occupants of that craft could be malevolent?

You make the umption that all aliens are the same ..... i suspect there are many types. From Red Rain in India, to energy like plasma in Norway --- and suspect of the more physical types comes in quite a few types and all don't seem to be malevolent.
